Parents’ Questions – FAQ for Kids’ Diving Programs:
Is diving safe for children?
Yes – provided it takes place according to international standards (PADI), under the supervision of certified instructors, and in a controlled environment. We have experience with children and use equipment and methods adapted to their age and abilities.
What is the minimum age for diving?
8 years old – Bubblemaker or Seal Team (max. depth 2 m, no certification)
10 years old – Junior Open Water Diver (certified course, depth up to 12 m)
12+ years old – children can dive up to 18 m after completing the course (with an adult)
Does my child need to be a good swimmer?
Yes, basic swimming ability is important. The child should be comfortable in the water and able to stay afloat. We don’t require athletic performance, but comfort in the water is fundamental for safety.
How do I know if my child is ready for the course?
It depends on:
their mental maturity – whether they understand instructions and can communicate if they don’t feel well, their ability to concentrate and follow safety rules,
their own interest – diving should not be “forced”
We’d be happy to discuss with you individually whether your child is a suitable candidate for a specific program.
Does the child need their own equipment?
No. We provide complete child-adapted equipment – including BCD, regulator, mask, fins, wetsuit, and tanks.
If the child has their own equipment, they are welcome to bring it.
Can I be present during the dive as a parent?
For Bubblemaker and Seal Team, yes – either on shore, or if you’re certified, you can join as a diver. For Junior OWD courses, it depends on the specific dives and group capacity. We aim to balance the child’s independence with your trust in the instructor.
What if the child finds they are not comfortable?
We never force children to continue. If a child decides not to proceed, we will find an alternative or reschedule the course. The initial experience should be positive – not stressful.
How long is the Junior OWD certification valid?
The certification is valid for life, but:
from 10–11 years old, the child can dive up to 12 m
from 12–14 years old, up to 18 m
from 15 years old, it automatically converts to a full Open Water Diver certification.
Can the child continue with another course?
Yes! After Junior OWD, they can continue to:
Junior Advanced Open Water Diver (from 12 years old)
Junior Rescue Diver
or pursue various specialties (e.g., Underwater Photography, Buoyancy, Fish and Underwater Life, etc.)
